The Coast Guard has established approval categories for structural fire protection materials to permit materials to be approved in accordance with the test procedures of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This standard has been replaced by the ASTM F3059 (see section below). 

Title 46 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) requires certain portions of U.S. flag commercial vessels to be constructed of Coast Guard approved materials.

The ASTM F3059 standard requires FRP gratings designed and used in the marine and shipbuilding industry to be appropiately tested to ensure worker safety.  Phenolic resin is typically used in those environments with strict structural fire integrity requirements.

Fibergrate FGI-AM® resin flooring products are formulated and manufactured to meet USDA acceptance. These products are manufactured to be used for repeated use in contact with food. The USDA no longer issues letters of approval for flooring products on a case-by-case basis. To reduce problems associated with government audits and long-term liabilities, Fibergrate has maintained its compliance status.
